Probably nothing to worry about because the two establishments in downtown Hampton, Baked Bistro and Poor Girls, appreciate you sending my business to them. Makes me think if I need to be back after having been there times before and wasn't treated this way. You don't grow your business by catering to your existing customers. Obvious you have an "off the books" reservation process for customers you know since there was an hour wait with no one waiting around in the area. This establishment is Mango Mangeaux!! On one of the busiest Sundays throughout the country, second to Mother's Day, and you are not taking reservations for breakfast/brunch.?!?! REALLY? there is an hour wait for a table yet no one in a waiting area or standing around and people are finishing and leaving tables. How is it that you state on your website that you will not be taking reservations for breakfast/brunch on Easter Sunday? Then when I arrive at 10 a.m., an hour after you open, you tell me. I want to start this review with a question. I look forward to coming back for brunch next time. The service was a little slow in the back of the house that night, too, despite not being overly crowded. I had higher expectations, but feel MM has great potential. Lastly, my French 75 cocktail was really good. My niece liked her chicken fried chicken, however again, the cornbread she had was too sweet, which diminished its savoriness. I really liked my Salmon dish and the string beans, which were delicious. This dish would be much better to me if the preserves were on the side (and much less of them). I assume this is supposed to be a signature dish, however, we felt it was entirely too sweet, and the mango preserves that sat on top of the bread made it soggy and inedible because the bread wasn't toasted or warm as advertised. Overall, the food was good, with a few misses. We ordered the Salmon Lafayette and the Chicken Fried Chicken for our entrees. We started with the French Bread with Mango Mango' Butter and were hoping to try the Neo-Soul Eggroll, but they were sold out, unfortunately. I loved the restaurant's decor - it's vibrant and dainty, just like a bistro, with bright orange throughout. I selected Mango Mangeaux because I wanted to spend time in Phoebus, which was always such a throwback in time little town to. My niece and I visited Mango Mangeaux last Thursday after our visit to Hampton University, my alma mater, for a college tour. Very rude, unprofessional, uncalled behavior and will not be returning. The steak that was ordered took about 2 hours to receive even after the rest of the orders had already been paid for. Especially when there is a reservation they should have taken into consideration with their schedules. The waitress Cat was very sweet but over worked and overwhelmed. The bartender, Sheldon was not happy when a few people from my party complained about the drink service and also about not receiving food. Basically the waitress was overwhelmed and for the size of the bistro it was only 1 table that was not occupied even during the 50% capacity rule in VA. We ordered our drinks and waited patiently for the rest of our party to arrive. ![]() Had reservations and we did get there a bit early so that we could partake in the Happy Hour specials as per their website and was told that due to the bar not being open they didn't have those advertised specials.
